Sumi Strata

The Sumi Strata works were inspired by a looking closely at selected edges and shapes in my Trash Tower sculptures. Like the Trash Towers they are layered with fragments of maps, washi paper, and newspapers. Ink, gesso and other pigments are used to meld these layers of cultural debris. Washes of ink and surfaces of varied textures and absorbency allow me to revel in the guided accident.
